Frank Tisher is widely experienced in a diverse range of legal areas. His primary interest and expertise is Commercial and Property Law.

He graduated from Melbourne University in 1968 with an Honours Law Degree and a Degree in Commerce. He practiced initially as a sole practitioner and then merged his practice to form Tisher Liner & Co in 1972. He has a wide general experience in the law developed over a number of years.

Today Frank specialises in drafting contractual documentation and in dealing with complex aspects of Property Law including subdivision, finance and mortgaging, leasing and litigation arising out of disputes, both property and commercial. Frank has had extensive experience in a wide range of commercial and business matters.

In 1994 he was one of the first practitioners to be recognised as an Accredited Specialist in Property Law. He has presented papers at property law conferences and lectured in Property Law.

Frank acts for a number of Property Developers ranging in size from small scale developers to one of Victoria's leading home builders. He provides prompt and personal communication with his clients and fellow practitioners and seeks to deal with difficult issues by way of negotiation as and when they arise.

Frank is vitally involved in a broad range of communal affairs. He is a former member of the Committee of the National Gallery Society and a former President of a tennis club, a ski club and the Emmy Monash Home for the Aged. He is an active member of the Property Law Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria.

He is married and has three children and six grandchildren. Frank's interests include tennis, walking, sport, theatre, the arts and music.

Dennis Liner | BACK

Dennis Liner B.Juris., LL.B., FTIA | PARTNER

 

Dennis graduated with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence (1967) and Bachelor of Laws (1969) and commenced his own practice in 1970. In 1972 this was merged to form Tisher Liner & Co.

Dennis has extensive experience in a wide area of law. He handles conveyancing for individuals and property developers. He is also involved in mortgage preparation. Dennis undertakes Estate Planning, Wills and deals with Probate Applications and estate administration on behalf of the firm's clients.

He is experienced in Federal, Supreme, County and Magistrates' Court matters, and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunals (VCAT).

He also handles building contracts and disputes and general commercial matters including sales and purchases of businesses, leasing, etc.

As a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Specialist Mediator, he practices mediation in all Court jurisdictions and is a sessional mediator with the Domestic Building List, Retail Tenancies List and Real Property List of VCAT, with the Small Business Commissioner (Retail Leases) and has undertaken numerous appointments as a mediator.

He is on the advanced panel of mediators of LEADR.

He is a member of VADR (Victorian Association for Dispute Resolution) and IINCM (International Institute for Negotiation and Conflict Management).

Dennis is a Fellow of Taxation Institute of Australia. He handles Trusts, Companies and various Taxation and Superannuation advice.

Dennis is also an Australian Domain Names Dispute Panelist. Dennis is one of only a very small number of legal practitioners who has adjudicated and is qualified to adjudicate in disputes relating to domain names.

Dennis has been involved in various community organisations and is a past member of Lauriston School Council. He enjoys exercising, reading, travelling, sport, art and family.

Dennis is married to Kathy and has four daughters, one of whom is a Lawyer.

Alan Goldstone | BACK

Alan Goldstone LL.B. | PARTNER

 

Alan Goldstone graduated from Melbourne University with a Law Degree and was thereafter admitted to practice in 1975.

He joined Frank Tisher and Dennis Liner as a Partner of Tisher Liner & Co in 1979. Alan practices in the areas of Commercial Law, Liquor Licensing, Business and Property Law. He was a founding member of the Law Institute of Victoria Liquor Committee in 1984 and was Chairman of that Committee for some years. Alan is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Property and Environmental Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria. In 2011, Alan received an award from the Law Institute of Victoria in recognition of his "outstanding contribution to the LIV and the legal profession".

Alan's clients include a diverse group of commercial organisations from public companies to family run businesses. He acts as a sounding board for many of the Firm's clients with regard to commercial and legal matters. He has a hands on approach to his clients and work and is very client oriented.

Alan is communally active and is a former President of Bialik College in Hawthorn. He has a keen interest in all sports and is an avid golfer, walker and scuba diver.

Alan is married to Pam and has a daughter and son.

Simon Abraham | BACK

Simon Abraham LL.B. B.Ec | PARTNER

 

Simon joined Tisher Liner & Co. in 1998 and became a Partner of the firm in 2003. Simon was recognised as an Accredited Specialist in the area of Commercial Litigation by the Law Institute of Victoria in 2006.

Simon graduated with degrees in law and economics from Monash University and was admitted to practice in 1996.

He practices principally in the area of Commercial Litigation and has experience in all major jurisdictions. Simon has established an excellent working relationship with some of Australia's leading barristers and has run a number of cases that have created legal precedents.

His cases have included complex property and partnership disputes. Contractual disputes relating to the supply of goods and services often require the services of a dedicated litigator. Simon likes challenging situations and is pleased to say that he cannot even relate to the concept of a “too hard” basket.

Additionally, Simon also practices in the area of employment law and has acted for both employers and employees in this emerging and important area. Drafting and reviewing employment contracts and providing advice and legal representation in relation to termination of employment are two areas in which Tisher Liner & Co. are regularly engaged.

Simon also enjoys Insolvency and Intellectual Property and has successfully run such cases in all major jurisdictions.

Simon believes that successful litigation depends upon attention to detail, good communication skills and the best presentation of the facts of a case. He also considers that the effective use of the Court process requires the tactical application of pressure upon the other side. The party most capably employing such resources is usually successful.

Tisher Liner & Co. encourage alternative dispute resolution techniques including Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration. Such measures form an integral part of modern case management in all Courts and Tribunals and often make good commercial sense.

In order to ensure the best client service and outcomes, Simon likes to meet with clients at the start of a case to discuss the client's goals and desired outcomes.

Simon's interests include playing soccer, the latest technical gadgets, trivia, contemporary art, major sporting events and the Great Ocean Road. Simon is married to Skye and they have twin boys.

Jonathan Tisher | BACK

Jonathan Tisher LL.B.(Hons), B.Sc | PARTNER

 

Jonathan Tisher graduated from Monash University in 1999 with an Honour Degrees in both Science (Psychology) and Law and was admitted to practice as a lawyer in May 2000. In October 2003 Jonathan obtained a Graduate Certificate in Management from Monash University. In November 2006, Jonathan was awarded the Young Property Lawyer of the Year Award (Victoria) from the Law Council of Australia and in 2009 he became an Accredited Property Law Specialist.

Jonathan completed his Articles at Phillips Fox and worked in their business and corporate department for a further year before joining Tisher Liner & Co in 2001. Jonathan became a partner at Tisher Liner & Co in July 2005.

At Tisher Liner & Co, Jonathan primarily practices in property, town planning, corporate and commercial and leasing law. He oversees a variety of property matters (off the plan and standard) including residential, commercial and industrial matters. He has also been involved in numerous adverse possession claims and has an extensive knowledge of this area of law.

Jonathan prepares wills, shareholder, partnership, joint venture and general commercial agreements and provides advice on trusts, incorporation of companies and sale of businesses.

Jonathan provides training seminars to real estate agents and has given presentations to the TEN Network and Legalwise on property related matters.

Jonathan sits on a range of committees including:

  • Accreditation Specialisation - Property & Commercial Tenancy Law Advisory Committee;
  • Law Council of Australia; Australian Property Law Group: Victorian Committee; and
  • Taxation Institute of Australia: Victorian State Taxes Sub-Committee.

In advising clients, Jonathan takes a commercially minded approach to general corporate issues to ensure that his clients are given the best possible services. He likes to meet with clients and understand their aims and anticipated outcomes.

Jonathan has been involved in various community organisations and has a keen interest in all sports, in particular tennis, soccer, skiing and Australian Rules Football. He is married and has three daughters.

Sam Recht | BACK

Sam Recht | PARTNER

 

Mr Sam Recht has over 20 years experience in commercial litigation practice, including complex commercial disputes at all jurisdictional levels.

He has handled Joint Venture and shareholder disputes, contractual Franchise disputes, Trade Practices disputes, insolvency priority and debtor disputes, Property Law disputes, Corporations Law disputes, Employment Law and Estate disputes.

Sam is also an accredited LEADR mediator. Sam is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria Employment Law and Workplace Relations Committees as well as the Litigation Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.

Sam is active in community and charity matters being Co-President of the Victorian Chapter of Magen David Adom which is the Red Cross of Israel. Sam is also a keen supporter of the Hawthorn Football Club. He has a disarming quick wit, a keen sense of humour and a friendly manner.

Phillip Leaman | BACK

Phillip Leaman LL.B.(Hons), B.Comm | ASSOCIATE

 

Phillip Leaman graduated from Deakin University with an Honours Degree of Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Electronic Commerce Management. Phillip was made an Associate of the firm in 2008.

Phillip commenced working for Baldwins in 1999 as a part time law clerk/Administrator whilst undertaking his studies. He completed his Articles with Baldwins in August 2005, moving to Tisher Liner & Co in September 2005. Phillip also enjoyed a practical placement in his final year at the Western Suburbs Legal Service.

Phillip has had a broad exposure to litigation in both state and federal jurisdictions and General Commercial Law including Trusts and Company Law, Commercial Agreements, Intellectual Property Law, Workplace and Industrial Relations/Employment Law and Franchising. Phillip prepares shareholder, partnership, joint venture and general commercial agreements, leases and provides advice on trusts, incorporation of companies and sale/purchase of businesses and other commercial matters. He has also been involved in numerous adverse possession claims and has an extensive knowledge of this area of law.

Phillip has many interests including Scouting, where he is a Queens Scout and Baden Powell Awardee. He is currently an Assistant Scout Leader of the 1st Hoppers Crossing Scout Troop. Phillip's other interests include scuba diving, golf, flying light aircraft and he has obtained his Private Pilots Licence.

Jenny Garnham | BACK

Jenny Garnham LL.B. | ASSOCIATE

 

Jenny commenced employment with Tisher Liner & Co in 2003 and graduated from University of New England with a Bachelor of Laws. Jenny was made an Associate of the firm in 2010.

Jenny worked for many years in regional Victoria in legal practices, initially as a conveyancing clerk in 1975 before moving to Melbourne in 1997. Jenny decided to further advance her career and undertook her law degree by correspondence whilst continuing to work. Jenny completed her Articles of Clerkship with Tisher Liner & Co. and was admitted to practice in August 2007.

Jenny has had a broad exposure to all aspects of conveyancing and property matters throughout her years and has developed an expertise in property sales and acquisitions, subdivisions, developments, easements, covenants and mortgages. She works in these areas at Tisher Liner & Co.

Jenny has two sons and two grandchildren and her interests include cooking, gardening and ballroom/latin dancing.
